Un procédé de préparation de tétrafluorure d'uranium comporte les étapes suivantes. On réduit catalytiquement par l'hydrogène, en présence d'ions H+, une solution de sel d'uranium (VI) soluble en une solution d'un sel d'uranium (IV) soluble. On fait réagir le sel d'uranium (IV) obtenu à l'étape précédente avec de l'acide fluorhydrique, afin d'obtenir la précipitation de tétrafluorure d'uranium. On récupère le tétrafluorure d'uranium sous forme de précipité.
