ABSTRACT Novel N-tert.-butoxycarbonyl derivatives of mono- and di-hydroxy aromatic amines of the formula Image These novel compounds are useful as intermediates in that they can be reacted with an acyloxymethyl chloride to pro- vide the corresponding mono- or di-acylated N-protected aromatic amine from which the N-protecting group can then be removed. The resultant acyl derivatives of mono- and di- hydroxy (e.g., catechol amines) are useful as sympathomine- tic amines.
