ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for following the seam of a device used in spiral welding of a tube from a strip in which the scanning of the position of the welded seam is carried out from the free edge of the tube on a line at right angles to the welded seam. The present invention also provides a jig for use in following the seam of a device used in spiral welding of a tube from a strip comprising a rod linkage carrying a scanning element said rod linkage being secured to a strut and said scanning element being adjustable to a reference point at the free edge of the tube as a function of strip width and dia- meter, said reference point being required for each measurement.
