A process for making a structural element, especially a structural element for a tensile building structure, comprises the steps of positioning a membrane-joining device in relation to a first portion of a face of a membrane and in relation to a second portion of a face of a membrane; and, using that membrane-joining device, arcuately joining that first portion to that second portion. A machine for carrying out that process, and a product made according to that process, are also disclosed.
