ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of cultivating a plant hydroponically wherein the root system is induced to develop in the form of two or more separate portions and wherein each portion is supplied with one or more separate nutrient solutions. For example, the plant may be grown in a hydroponic gully having separate channels for the supply of the nutrient solutions. The resulting plant has an enhanced degree of cross-linkage in its vascular tissues. A novel propagation pocket of hydrophilic absorbent sheet material is also described, suitable for locating a plant on a dividing wall between said channels.
