The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of derived wood board panels, in which a mat of material for pressing mixed with a binding agent is formed from a spreading station onto a continuously moving spreading belt, and which after being fed between the steel belts of a continuously operating heat press is cured, by application of pressure and heat, into a panel string, and with the hot panel string being exposed to a cooling device immediately after leaving the heat press. The invention consists in that both surfaces of the hot panel string are shock pre-cooled and moistened with water spray in a first cooling section with an evaporation zone variable in its length or adjustable to the thickness of the panel string, and in between are held under multiple mangle roller pressure and fed by a double-belt feed device into an immediately following second cooling section under low specific pressure, with the rear sides of the feed belts being sprayed with a suitable coolant as they pass through.
