Abstract The disclosed process produces and recovers fractions of materials, containing most of the original weight of the treated material, with a sufficient degree of separation. Most of the material thus recovered is suitable for industrial reuse. The process is particularly suitable for sport equipment made mainly of plastic and/or wood in conjunction with metal compo- nents, such as skis, ski boots, snowboards, skateboards, and safety helmets. The steps of the process comprise mechanical shredding and several stages of mechanical and physical sepa- ration, but no incineration. The process is environmentally acceptable and easy to operate. A suitable plant that consists mainly of shredding units and various types of separator units can preferably be made as a mobile assembly and, for example, installed in a road vehicle.
