Process and plant for the separation of comminuted plastics of different chemical composition and different specific density. The process for the separation of comminuted plastics is characterized by the following steps: dry and wet comminution, removal of foreign substances, separation of films and sheeting from shape-stable par- ticles in an air classifier, introduction of the films and sheeting into a stirred tank for homogenization with a separation medium, pumping off into a separation tank with a vertical lifting tube, and emergence of the mixture in a re-directed, horizontal direction into a space which extends to the outside and is formed by the angle of conical parts located one on top of the other and an imaginary line between the corner points of the boundary lines of the concial parts, representing a geometrical space in which the flow velocity decreases and from which the particles emerge into a cylindrical space and separate with a rising or sinking velocity, the specific density of the separation medium being between the densities of the plastic particles of different chemical composition and specific density, and a further separation then taking place in the same way to give single-material fractions, and a sub-apparatus for carrying out the process.
