ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Olefin polymerization catalysts are prepared by (1) reducing a transition metal compound with an organo- magnesium compound in the presence of a support material selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, or mixtures thereof and (2) reacting excess organomagnesium compound with a deactivation agent, such as hydrogen chloride, prior to activation of the catalyst with organo- aluminum compounds. The catalysts are highly efficient. The polymer has low metal and chloride residues and larger polymer particle size than polymer particles produced by an unsupported catalyst.
