ABSTRACT A novel process for extracting and recovering acetone in waste filter pads of cellulose fiber is disclosed. The process is fast, economical and produces high yields of recovered acetone. Spent or waste filter pads containing recoverable acetone are admixed and dissolved in acetone and water so as to form a suspension to solids in a liquid. The admixture is thereafter subjected to distillation with the acetone being recovered in the distillate. The preferred ratio to acetone in the waste filter pad to acetone and water admixed therewith is from about 1:4.1:3.3 to about 1:2.5:2.0 by weight. The acetone may be added first or concurrently with the water addition.
