Hannover, Dec. 18, 1989 ABSTRACT 1. Method for the adjustment of the tape tension. 2.1 With known video recorders the tape tension sensor lever is lifted off the magnetic tape for the change- over to the backward search mode and the tape tension is predetermined by a firmly pre-adjusted slip coupling in this mode of operation. It is the object of the invention to maintain the last adjusted tape tension as well as the tape position relative to the adjacent magnetic heads throughout a change-over from the reproduction mode to the backward search mode and, at the same time, to control the tape tension in the backward search mode via the tape tension sensor lever. 2.2 The tape tension sensor lever is arrested in its last obtained position by a controllable catch lever during the change of direction into the backward search mode in such a manner that the lock is lifted (terminated) at the start of the backward mode through increased tape tension. Further control of the tape tension happens through a slip coupling, whose effects are adjustable, which is controlled by means of an electro-mechanical converter dependent on the position of the tape tension sensor lever. 2.3 Magnetic tape recorder 3.
