ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the enzymatic, aerobic treatment of solids containing organic matter, comprises admixing to the solids from about 0.001% to about 0.1% wt. based on the organic matter content dry basis of the solids of a chelating agent, and from about 0.001% to about 1.5% wt same basis of one or more enzymes adapted to break down the organic matter. The resulting mixture is aerated for a period of from about 0.5 to about 20 hours until prior to the dissolution of the organic matter. The mixture is rested and degassed for a period of from about 5 to about 15 hours and then the solids are recovered from the mixture by separation from its liquid content.
