18761 Abstract The invention relates to a process for the application of a coating on a substrate by means of a plasma torch, a correspondingly applied coating, as well as a plasma torch intended and suitable to implement the process. The coating consists of a matrix as effective layer and embedments of diamond particles for improving the matrix characteristics or of a matrix as binder material with therein embedded particles which then form the actual effective layer. Depending on the parameters selected during coating, primarily depending on the distance of the substrate from the plasma torch and on the addition of carbide producers to the plasma torch, it is possible to select various densities of diamond material, respectively matrix material in the coating. -21-
