2093429 9206992 PCTABS00012 Described is a new microbial biophosphorylation process for regiospecifically phosphorylating the hydroxyl group, in a ''phosphate active'' hydroxyl containing organic compound, under biotransformation conditions utilizing the microorganism, Rhizopus oryzae) ATCC No. 11145. The phosphorylated compounds produced by the process include e.g., macrolide FK-506 type immunosuppressants which are useful in preventing human host rejection of foreign organ transplants, e.g. bone marrow, liver, kidney, lung and heart transplants. Other hydroxyl containing compounds, applicable in this process include rapamycin, echinocandins, HIV protease inhibitors, simvastatin and zearalenone.
