L'invention concerne un procédé de décoloration des fibres kératiniques, caractérisé par le fait qu'il consiste à mettre en contact des fibres kératiniques sur lesquelles on a appliqué une composition décolorante contenant au moins un agent oxydant, avec un gaz contenant de la vapeur d'eau, la température dudit gaz étant supérieure à 75°C, le temps de contact entre ledit gaz etlesdites fibres à décolorer étant inférieur à dix minutes. On obtient une décoloration rapide et n'engendrant aucun reflet roux.
