ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a catalyst for burning deleterious substances contained in the exhaust gases of alcohol- operated internal combustion engines. The catalyst comprises a metal support, a coat of active aluminium oxide deposited thereon and a specific amount of palladium deposited on said coat. The present invention also provides a process for pro- ducing said catalyst, providing a final activation in an oxidiz- ing atmosphere or forming at specific temperatures in the flow of the exhaust gas to be purified, and the use of the catalyst for simultaneously removing aldehydes, alcohols, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons present in the exhaust gas.
