ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the reaction of an olefin with hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst is disclosed, wherein said catalyst consists of a porous inert carrier material impregnated with a solution of a catalytically active metal complex dissolved in a ligand-forming compound of low volatility. Preferred catalysts contain a complex of Rh, Ru, Co or Ir, dissolved in a phosphine or phosphite.
