ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel hydroformylation process and novel catalyst therefor are provided herein for the conversion of an olefinic compound having up to 20 carbon atoms to its corresponding aldehyde. The process involves the use of novel platinum-group metal phosphinoalkylsilyl complexes with bis- or tris(phosphinoalkyl)silyl ligands as catalysts. The novel catalysts provided herein are platinum-group metal complexes with bis- or tris(phosphinoalkyl)silyl ligands, which are synthesized by using novel bis(phosphinoalkyl)silanes or tris(phosphinoalkyl)silanes.
