A process is described for cleaning up wastewaters which originate from the preparation of alcohols, this alcohol preparation comprising an aldolization reaction, a following hydrogenation and a concluding alcohol distillation. The wastewaters comprise various wastewater fractions from the various alcohol preparation steps. The process for cleaning up these wastewaters includes an acidification and extraction of one or more of these wastewater fractions and comprises bringing one or more of the wastewater fractions into contact with a coalescing filter in the course of the process.
