2041662 9104349 PCTABScor01 Apparatus and method of coating substrate metals with an alloy coating by dipping the substrate into a body of molten alloy. The apparatus and method are such that entry of ambient air is minimized while inserting uncoated metal substrate and removing coated metal substrate. Such means includes a closed chamber having an entry port, a cooling section above the entry port, a preheating and annealing section below the entry port, a furnace and a crucible section for melting the alloy and coating the substrate, means for successively lowering of the uncoated substrate into the preheating/annealing section, then into the crucible, then raising the coated substrate into the preheating/annealing section, then lifting it into the cooling section, then lowering it into the port section and removing it. A heat reflector is provided above the crucible to conserve heat while the coated substrate is cooling.
