This process is characterized by the fact that at least one of the said monomers is polymerized or copolymerized in block, solution, emulsion or suspension at a temperature as low as 0 C in the presence of an initiating system consisting of at least one radical-generating compound other than arene sulfonyl chloride and at least one catalyst comprised of a metal complex represented by the following formula (I): MAa(L)n wherein M represents Ni, Pd or Pt; A represents a halogen or pseudohalide; L are ligands of the metal M, selected independently from those containing at least one of N, P, As, Sb, Bi, at least two of these ligands being able to be linked together by one or more bivalent radicals; a is an integer between 1 and 5; n is an integer between 1 and 4; with 4 ~ a + n ~ 6, a + n representing the coordination number of the complex.

Ce procédé est caractérisé par le fait que l'on polymérise ou copolymérise en masse, solution, émulsion ou suspension, à une température pouvant descendre jusqu'à 0°C, au moins un desdits monomères en présence d'un système d'amorçage comprenant au moins un composé générateur de radicaux autre qu'un chlorure d'arène sulfonyle ; et au moins un catalyseur constitué par un complexe de métal représenté par la formule suivante (I) : MAa(L)n dans laquelle : M représente Ni, Pd ou Pt ; A représente un halogène ou un pseudo-halogénure ; les L sont des ligands du métal M, choisis indépendamment parmi ceux contenant au moins l'un parmi N, P, As, Sb, Bi, au moins deux de ces ligands pouvant être reliés entre eux par un ou plusieurs radicaux bivalents ; a est un entier de 1 à 5 ; n est un entier de 1 à 4 ; avec 4 ~ a + n ~ 6, a + n représentant le nombre de coordination du complexe.
