Abstract An in-furnace sorbent slurry injection process for the simultaneous control of SO2 and NOx from power plant flue gases is described. An aqueous slurry of limestone or dolomite-doped limestone and a nitrogenous progenitor compound is injected into the furnace at temperatures ranging between 900°C and 1350°C, optimizing operating parameters for maximum SO2 and NOx capture. Under optimized operating conditions with urea selected as the nitrogenous progenitor, about 80% of the SO2 and 90% of the NO. are simultaneously removed.
