The present invention is a process for the conversion of aluminum oxide hydroxide (A1OOH) to aluminum oxide. 30 to 70 wt-% of A1OOH, 30 to 70 wt % ammonium hydrogencarbonate NH4HCO3 and 0 to 20 wt-% water are combined to produce a mixture. This mixture is then cured at a temperature from 30° to 90° C to convert at least 5% of the A1OOH to a ammonium hydroxycarbonate (dawsonite - type) intermediate and then the dawsonite-type intermediate is decomposed at a temperature from 130° to 320° C to produce aluminum oxide. The aluminum oxide can be further calcined at 500° to 800° C to produce a gamma-theta phase alumina.
Linvention concerne un procédé de transformation doxyde-hydroxyde daluminium (AlOOH) en oxyde daluminium. 30 à 70% en poids dAlOOH, 30 à 70% en poids de carbonate dhydrogène dammonium NH4HCO3 et 0 à 20% en poids deau sont combinés pour produire un mélange. Ce mélange est ensuite durci à une température comprise entre 30° et 90° C pour transformer au moins 5% de lAlOOH en un intermédiaire dhydroxycarbonate dammonium (de type dawsonite), puis lintermédiaire de type dawsonite est décomposé à une température comprise entre 130° et 320° C afin de produire un oxyde daluminium. Ledit oxyde daluminium peut être ensuite calciné à une température comprise entre 500° et 800° C pour produire une alumine à phase gamma-thêta.
