ABSTRACT Hydrocarbon streams containing primarily olefins such as ethylene up to and inclusive of C16 olefins are converted to high viscosity index lubricating oil base stock by contacting them with a ZSM-5 type zeolite catalyst which has been conditioned by previous contact with a light olefin, preferably of 3 to 6 carbon atoms per molecule under suitable conditions of temperature and pressure.
