Disclosed is a process for covering or impregnating silica with a wax, at a temperature above the melting range and below the decomposition temperature of the wax in air. Covering silica with a wax in this way, the process is simplified and use of a dispersing agent in avoided. The silica covered with the wax is useful as a matting agent for coatings.
