ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a process for crushing raw lignite. The normally moist raw lignite is dried with an exit temperature after drying of approximately 70 to 85°C. The dried raw lignite is then conveyed to an air- swept roller mill wherein the raw lignite is crushed between a crushing pan and crushing rollers. Crushed lignite is directed outwardly from the crushing pan to an annulus wherein a fluidized bed of crushed lignite in cold and/or ambient air is formed. The air flow reduces the temperature of the crushed lignite to a temperature below 60°C.
