The present invention provides a process for crystallising polyethylene naphthalate copolymer in the absence of a devolatilization step comprising: a) copolymerising carboxylic acids made up of at least 60 mole % of 2,6- naphthalene dicarboxylic acid; with polyols comprising at least 80 mole % ethylene glycol and from 2 to 20 mole % of a polyol having three or more carbon atoms, based on the total moles of polyols, to form PEN copolymer solids; and b) subsequently crystallising said solids comprising heating said solids to at least their sticking temperature at an average rate of at least 10 ~C/min, to form agglomerate-free crystallised solids. In another embodiment of the invention, there is provided a process wherein said crystallising solids are subsequently solid state polymerised.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de cristalliser des copolymères de polyéthylène naphtalate sans passer par une étape de dévolatilisation. Ce procédé consiste d'abord à copolymériser des acides carboxyliques constitués d'au moins 60 % en mole d'acide 2,6-naphtalène dicarboxylique, avec des polyols contenant au moins 80 % en mole d'éthylèneglycol et de 2 à 20 % en mole d'un polyol possédant au moins trois atomes de carbone, sur la base du nombre total de moles des polyols, de façon à former des solides à base de copolymères de polyéthylène naphtalate. Ce procédé consiste ensuite à cristalliser lesdits solides en les chauffant au moins à leur température de solidification à une vitesse moyenne d'au moins 10 ·C/min., de façon à former des solides cristallisés dépourvus d'agglomérats. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, un procédé consiste à polymériser ultérieurement à l'état solide lesdits solides en cours de cristallisation.
