A PROCESS FOR DECAFFEINATING GREEN COFFEE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention concerns Z1 process for decaffeinating green coffee by extraction of the coffee with water and treatment of the aqueous extract with activated carbon. In order to improve this process the invention is characterized in that a) treating the extract with activated carbon from process step c, in which the caffeine is largely absorbed by the activated carbon, b) treating the caffeine-loaded activated carbon with an acid liquid whereby the caffeine is largely removed from the activated carbon, c) washing the activated carbon with water until it has a pH ranging from 3 to 6 (determined according to ASTM D 3838-80), and d) returning the washed carbon to process step a.
