Abstract A process for decoloring a fatty acid ester and a food or cosmetic composition containing the ester To decolour a strongly coloured fatty acid ester intended for use in foods or cosmetics which cannot be satisfactorily decoloured for the applications envisaged by conventional decoloration, the fatty acid ester dissolved in an apolar solvent is passed through a column filled with a mixture of montmorillonite, silica gel and/or active carbon.
