ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the embodiments described herein, glyceride fat or oil products are deodorized and refined by mixing the fat or oil product with steam and passing the product-steam mix- ture through a confined tortuous flow path arranged to permit a controlled pressure letdown so as to vaporize undesirable volatiles such as fatty acids, and thereafter passing the product-steam-vapor mixture into a cyclone separator. The disclosed process may be carried out in one or more stages and may include the steps of deaeration and preheating of the feed material as well as heat recovery by cooling the product with the incoming cool feed.
