ABSTRACT A high pressure water pumping unit consists of a long stroke piston pump capable of producing pressures of 10 000 P.S.I. to 30 000 P.S.I., when driven by a motor capable of producing 50 to 200 H.P. When the water under pressure of 30 000 P.S.I. is directed via high pressure hose to a high pressure gun fitted with a hardened stainless steel nozzle with an opening of 1/32 of an inch or smaller, the resulting stream of water is capable of cutting very hard materials such as stone or steel. When this stream of water is directed at the base of a woody plant it may cut through the soil and the woody material of the target plant. The stream of water may cut through the soil, disturbing it very little except to cut the soil to the same width as the stream of water and to cut the woody material of the target plant below the level of the ground.
