2102290 9219769 PCTABS00017 To diagnose non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or a genetically conditioned disposition thereto, examinations are made of tissue cells, especially skeletal muscle cells, from the person concerned for the presence of the human insulin receptor of type B (HIR-B). This examination is preferably conducted with the aid of specific oligonucleotides the use of which as primers in a PCR amplification reaction of cDNA obtained from tissue RNA enables a distinction to be made between HIR-A and HIR-B RNA.
