A B S T RA C T PROCESS FOR DIMERIZING ALPHA-OLEFINS Process for preparing .alpha.-olefins CH2=C(R)CH2CH2R, R being C1-30-alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, by dimerizing .alpha.-olefins CH2=C(R)H, at -60 to +280 °C, with a catalyst comprising a) a metallocene (cyclopentadienyl)2MY2, M being Zr or Hf and Y being H, halogen, C1-5-alkyl or C6-20-aryl, and b) an alumoxane, using an atom ratio Al to M from 1 to 100.
