Aqueous solutions can be doped easily, safely and economically with acrolein in biocidally active concentrations by decomposing acrolein acetals in an aqueous phase into acrolein and the alcohol component in the presence of a strongly acid deacetalisation catalyst and continuously removing the resulting acrolein from the deacetalisation mixture and transferring it into the aqueous solution which is to be doped by an inert stream of gas or by a liquid jet pump using the aqueous solution to be doped as the propellant jet.
