ABSTRACT When geothermal wells are drilled, the raw steam, containing H2S gas and debris, released is treated with an aqueous solution containing ferric chelate and one or more water soluble cationic poly- meric catalysts which remove substantially all of the H2S. The debris is removed in a settling zone. The polymeric catalysts accelerate the oxidation of sulfide ions to sulfur solids.
