ABREGE L'invention concerne un procédé de teinture des fibres kératiniques, en particulier des fibres kératiniques humaines telles que les cheveux, caractérisé par le fait qu'on applique sur ces fibres une composition contenant dans un milieu approprié pour la teinture, au moins le 2,4-di- amino 1,3-diméthoxybenzène, comme coupleur; au moins un précurseur de colorant d'oxydation; et au moins un agent oxydant. Le pH de la composition appliquée sur les fibres est inférieur à 7. Le procédé selon l'invention permet d'obtenir une puissance tinctoriale au moins égale à celle obtenue à pH alcalin et une remarquable stabilité des teintures à la lumière, aux lavages, à la transpiration et aux intempéries.
