A process for generating electric power by combustion of a fuel with an oxidizing gas enriched in oxygen and at least one inert gas. A portion of the energy of combustion is recovered by a steam turbine, optionally in combination with a gas turbine, thereby generating electric power. At least a portion of the combustion gases are recycled as an inert gas-enriched working gas, and preferably a working gas sidestream is processed to recover a carbon dioxide product and a crude inert gas fraction. The presence of inert gas in the recycled working gas improves the overall efficiency of the electricity generation.
