ABSTRACT A process is disclosed for the elimination of H2S from natural gas, crude oil or mixtures thereof, wherein water-containing natural gas, crude oil or mixtures thereof extracted from the ground is injected, at elevated pressure, and, if necessary, elevated temperature, with an aqueous H2O2 solution in a reactor under mixing conditions, while maintaining the elevated pressure, for a time such that the H2S content of the natural gas phase and/or the crude oil phase is reduced to the desired level.
