ABSTRACT A process for extracting oil from an oil well and for utilising the issuing petroleum gas. Steam is supplied through a pipe (2) into the oil well and an oil/water/gas mixture emerges from the oil well through a pipe (3) and flow through a gas separator (4), the oil/water mixture proceeding to a water separator (5) from which flows the oil (to the right) and the water (to the left). The gas is supplied, for example through a device (22) in which it has steam mixed with it, to a steam reformer (8) in which hydrogen is produced. The steam reformer is heated by a high-temperature reactor (13) and heat from the reactor is also used to generate, firstly, steam which is supplied to a turbine (20) driving a generator (G), this steam then being mixed with the gas on its way to the steam reformer, and, secondly, steam which is supplied through the pipe (2) to the oil well.
