ABSTRACT A process for recovering vanadium from a deactivated catalyst in which process a catalyst which has become deactiv- ated in the catalytic hydrotreatment of a vanadium-containing hydrocarbon oil is treated with a mixture of steam and air under specified conditions followed by extraction with an aqueous solution of a mineral acid in the presence of a reduc- ing agent, after which vanadium is isolated from the vana- dium-containing solution thus obtained.
