ABSTRACT A process is disclosed for hydrogenating a conjugated diene polymer in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst supported on a carrier. The carrier is porous silica having an average pore diameter of from 80 to 1200 .ANG. and a specific surface area of not more than 600 m2/g. The supported catalyst has high activity and can be easily separated from the highly viscous reaction solution containing the hydrogenated polymer after hydrogenation.
