Abstract of Disclosure This invention relates to a process for hydro- genating a mixture of an unsaturated aliphatic aldehyde and a diacetoxybutene to obtain diacetoxybutane with a high degree of selectivity and yield. The process is characterized in that the hydrogenation is carried out in two separate reactors and a carbon-carbon double bond of the starting compound is hydrogenated in the first reactor and an aldehyde group thereof in the second reactor.
