ABSTRACT. The invention provides for a process for impregnat- ing a cellulosic material, especially wood, to improve its resistance to moisture and to increase its dimensional stability, wherein the material is brought into contact with an agent comprising a silane of the formula: Image wherein R1, R2 and R3 are same or different and are selected from the group comprising: alkoxy with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and R4 is equal to any of R1, R2 and R3 or selected from the group comprising: alkyl and cycloalkyl with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, aryl, aralkyl and organo-func- tional radicals, or with a hydrolysate or hydrolysate-con- densate of such silane. The invention also extends to products prepared by such process.
