The present invention describes a process for improving the thermal and light stability of polyesters, especially polyester fibers, which comprises adding to the polyesters a chain extender. Especially preferred chain extenders are dianhydrides, alcohols and hindered phenolic aromatic phosphates or mixtures thereof.
