ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a process for increasing the corrosion resistance of nitrided component parts of iron material, i.e. a process which is applicable to any kind of iron and steel, the nitriding process is followed by an oxidizing treatment, which, according to the invention is carried out in an oxidizing salt bath during a period of 15 to 50 minutes. The salt baths preferably consist of alkali hydroxides with 2 to 20% of alkali nitrate.
