The invention relates to the removal of hydroxy- monocarboxylic acids and tricarboxylic acids, e.g. citric acid and lactic acid, from aqueous solutions, e.g. obtained from fermentation processes, by adsorption on zeolites with a modulus of up to 400. Suitable zeolites are of the dealuminised Y type (DAY), ZSM-5 type and mordenite type.
