Ergot alkaloids are isolated from ergot in high yields and purity by a process including extracting Claviceps purpurea, i.e., ergot, with a toluene/ethanol solvent mixture to obtain a primary extract. The primary extract can be further subjected to two steps of liquid-liquid extraction to purify the alkaloids resulting in a purified toluene extract. The toluene extract can be further partially evaporated and a crystalline product obtained by crystallization from the toluene or a mixture of toluene and an aliphatic hydrocarbon.

Selon l'invention, les alcaloïdes de l'ergot sont isolés de l'ergot avec un rendement et une pureté élevés au moyen d'un procédé qui consiste à extraire Claviceps purpurea, c'est-à-dire, l'ergot, à l'aide d'un mélange solvant toluène/éthanol afin d'obtenir un extrait primaire. Cet extrait primaire peut être également soumis à deux étapes d'extraction liquide-liquide afin de purifier les alcaloïdes et d'obtenir ainsi un extrait de toluène purifié. Cet extrait de toluène peut être partiellement évaporé et un produit cristallin obtenu par cristallisation du toluène ou d'un mélange de toluène et d'un hydrocarbure aliphatique.
