ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a process for isomerization of hydrochloro- fluorocarbons such as hydrochlorofluoroethane, to more stable isomers using a fluorinated alumina catalyst. The catalyst has the formula: AlFxOy (wherein x/y is more than 0 and not more than 2/3) and is obtained by calcining Al2O3?nH2O (where n is 0 to 3) containing fibrils of polytetrafluoroethylene at a temperature of at least 400°C. The catalyst has a high isomeriza- tion catalytic activity and a long life.
