The present invention relates to a process for isomerization of lactones, more particularly various valerolactones and isomers thereof into pentenoic acids. It relates more particularly to a process for isomerization into a pentenoic acid of at least one lactone having 5 carbon atoms, caracterized in that said lactone is brought in contact in vapour phase with a solid acid catalyst selected amongst molecular acid sieves, clays, bridged clays (or pillar clays), massic oxides and acid phosphates or with a solid basic catalyst selected amongst metal basic phosphates, metal basic oxides, metal carbonates and molecular basic sieves.
La présente invention concerne un procédé d'isomérisation de lactones, plus particulièrement des différentes valérolac- tones et de leurs isomères, en acides penténoïques. Elle consiste plus particulièrement en un procédé d'isomérisation en acide penténoïque d'au moins une lactone ayant 5 atomes de carbone, caractérisé en ce que l'on met en contact en phase vapeur ladite lactone avec un catalyseur solide acide choisi parmi les tamis moléculaires acides, les argiles, les argiles pontées (ou argiles à pi- liers), les oxydes massiques et les phosphates acides ou avec un catalyseur solide basique choisi parmi les phosphates métalliques basiques, les oxydes métalliques basiques, les carbonates métalliques et les tamis moléculaires basiques.
