The invention relates to a process for locating a fixed terminal of a telecommunication system comprising a constellation of satellites, a plurality of base stations and a plurality of fixed terminals. According to the invention, the process includes "coarse", "medium" and "fine" locating phases. In the "medium" locating phase, the terminal calculates at least three hyperboloids, then the intersection of the said hyperboloids, assuming a terminal position estimated as "coarse" is known. Each hyperboloid can be written as: H ij = dj - di = (tj' - tj).c - (ti' - ti).c, where di is the distance between the terminal and the position pi of active satellite i at time ti; dj is the distance between the terminal and the position pj of active satellite j at time tj; ti and tj are times of retransmission i and j, by satellites i and j, respectively, of informations i and j relating to ti and di, and to tj and dj, respectively; ti' and tj' are times of reception i and j, by the terminal, of informations i and j; c is the speed of light.

L'invention concerne un procédé de localisation d'un terminal fixe d'un système de télécommunications comprenant une constellation de satellites, une pluralité de stations de base et une pluralité de terminaux fixes. Selon l'invention, le procédé comprend des phases de localisation "grossière", "moyenne" et "fine". Lors de la phase de localisation "moyenne", le terminal calcule au moins trois hyperboloïdes, puis l'intersection de ces derniers, en supposant connue une position estimée "grossière" du terminal. Chaque hyperboloïde peut s'écrire: H ij = dj - di = (tj' - tj).c - (ti' - ti).c, où: - di est la distance entre le terminal et la position pi d'un ième satellite actif à l'instant ti, - dj est la distance entre le terminal et la position pj d'un jème satellite actif à l'instant tj, - ti et tj sont des ième et jème instants de retransmission, par les ième et jème satellites respectivement, de ième et jème informations relatives à ti et di, et à tj et dj respectivement - ti' et tj' sont les ième et jème instants de réception, par le terminal, des ième et jème informations, - c est la vitesse de la lumière.
